I’m coordinator of Semiofest’s series of informal online “sessions.” These events are intended not only to share best practices among, but to nurture collegiality and friendship within the global semio community.
Coming up on November 12th (at 2 pm UK time)…
THINKING WITH OBJECTS
The analysis of objects in order to reveal hidden aspects of social reality has since the 1990s emerged rapidly, primarily from within the fields of archaeology and anthropology.
Although commercial semioticians typically focus on brands and other nonmaterial symbols, when applied to objects our methods offer a powerful complement to those of “material culture studies.” Sónia Marques (Portugal), Lucia Laurent-Neva (UK), and Josh Glenn (US) will share their approaches to thinking with objects… and they’ll invite attendees to tell their own object-oriented stories, too.
Get tickets (suggested donations only) at the link above.
