I’m coordinator of Semiofest’s series of informal online “sessions.” These events are intended not only to share best practices among, but to nurture collegiality and friendship within the global semio community.
Coming up on February 18th (at 2 pm UK time)…
SEMIOTICS & UX
In this session, you’ll have an opportunity to learn from three practitioners who will share some unique perspectives on UX and semiotic practices. Each speaker will discuss how they are involved in UX and how they’ve found semiotics helpful to enrich research opportunities.

Our sessionists:
- DOMINIKA NOWOROLSKA.
- SARAH JOHNSON is a commercial semiotician who has conducted analyses ranging from obesity in American popular culture to a historical analysis of Ritz Cracker advertising. In a past life, Sarah worked as an Account Planner at agencies in New York, London, and Toronto, which has given her a rich understanding of the cultural nuances in all three markets.
- DOMINIKA NOWORLSKA is a multidisciplinary researcher who started her squiggly career journey in commercial semiotics. She is led by a passion for reading meanings in all their forms and understanding the wealth of cultural differences. While she is now officially a recovering semiotician, the method evolved into a lens that informs all of her research activities.
- LUCIA TREZOVA background is an interdisciplinary mix of market and cultural research and UX. In 2013, she was first introduced to semiotics, which she found to be a fascinating discipline. Since then, she has endeavoured to combine semiotics with her psychology, brand management background and design knowledge to help her clients create seamless digital interfaces and develop new innovative features.
