I’m coordinator of Semiofest’s series of informal online “sessions.” These events are intended not only to share best practices among, but to nurture collegiality and friendship within the global semio community.

10th ANNIVERSARY OF SEMIOFEST

It’s hard to believe, but Semiofest will celebrate its 10th anniversary on the 31st of May / the 1st of June.

It’s been ten years of celebrating applied semiotic thinking!

The first event was hosted in London in 2012 as an experiment where we opened the doors to some thought-provoking semiotic dialogues. Barcelona happened in 2013, and we quickly went further from there to Shanghai, Paris, Tallinn, Toronto and Mumbai and later in the year we’ll be celebrating in Mexico!

We have hosted approximately seven face-to-face events and 13 online sessions. We have showcased hundreds of presentations, facilitated thousands of conversations, and brought semioticians from all over the world to share the best of our discipline with global peers. But that is what we think, but how about you?

Because… we invit you to an informal celebration of all things Semiofest on Friday, the 17th of June. This will be a different kind of Semiofest Session – we want it to feel more like a community get-together that allows us to reflect upon what we have achieved together and gather thoughts for what we might do in the future to build an even better and stronger community. We have some ideas about what we will share with you. But otherwise, it will be all about hearing your voice as part of the Semiofest community at this special event.

We’ll start the event by reminding you of what each version of Semiofest brought to the world! Because every year was unique in its own right. We’ll first try to remember the best things about each year, and then we want to get an idea from you of what might be coming next. We are even going to develop some ideas for future events based on the best of Semiofest so far. But first and foremost we want to mark the last 10 years which we couldn’t have done without you, our beloved community! We are not charging for this event nor are we asking for donations. Our heartfelt desire is to hold a space to mark and enjoy this unique milestone.
