Kaie has a BA and MA in Semiotics and Theory of Culture from the University of Tartu, Estonia. She has taught semiotics at the University of Tartu, the Estonian Academy of Arts, and the Pallas University of Applied Sciences. Her applied semiotic work includes working with different local and international brands and serving as a semiotic expert witness for the Estonian Internal Security Service, Police, and in legal trademark disputes. On the creative side of applied semiotic thinking, she did the scriptwriting and research for an environmental documentary "The Measure of Man" (2011, Cinema Planeta audience award), and curated the renewal of the permanent exhibition of the University of Tartu Natural History Museum. She also collaborated with the documentary project "Lotman's World" (2008). Currently, her field of practice is social innovation, public service design, and community building. She also led the team organizing Semiofest 2016, "Semiotics and Culture of Innovation" in Tallinn, Estonia.
